The Facts

  • Black with violet and blue undertones. Created to darken other shades
  • Packed with hair-healthy, salon-quality ingredients that do NOT damage hair
  • 16-24 washes
  • A hair-healthy additive is designed to darken hair dyed with GDY semi-permanent hair color

None More Black is designed to mix with other GDY Semi-Permanent colors to darken them, and is not intended as a stand-alone black hair dye. In order to remove the violet undertones in None More Black and achieve a truer black, we recommend adding Riot (orange) to cancel out the violet coloring in the below custom mix.:

Custom mix: 7/8 None More Black + 1/8 Riot

  1. Add the color you want to darken to a mixing bowl. Mix in quarter size amounts of None More Black and continue adding until you achieve your desired color.

  2. To create the best blank canvas for your color, we recommend that you first lighten your hair with our easy-to-use GDY Lightening Kit. Our semi-perms work best over pre-lightened hair, levels 7-10. Please refer to individual colors for the best starting level.

  3. Squeeze your color into a plastic bowl. Remember: wear gloves to prevent staining on your hands.

  4. Do a strand test before applying the color all over your hair to ensure you love the look.

  5. Divide your hair into 4 equal sections and apply dye directly onto dry hair with a color brush or your fingers. Make sure the color is fully saturated throughout each section by applying a dollop of color for every two inch portion of your hair. Gently emulsify/massage into the hair to ensure coverage.

  6. Let the color sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes.

  7. Rinse with cool water.

  • None More Black was created to be used as a mixer to darken our colors.
  • We do not suggest using None More Black on its own.
  • With semi-permanent black dyes, the underlying pigments (blue, purple) can tend to stick to blonde hair, causing the hair to appear dark purple or blue.
  • Mix a few drops of NMB with Blue Ruin to create a navy blue.
  • Mix a few drops of NMB with Rock Lobster to create a maroon.
  • Mix a few drops of NMB with Kowabunga to create a forest green.
  • Mix a few drops of NMB with Ex-Girl to create a magenta.

Reviews

Works great when mixed or layered on top

"do not use this with freshly dyed hair, it will turn dark blue and a little streaky. When mixed with other colors though this is a dream. Especially if you mix it with orangeier tones it turns much more traditionally black!"

It is not a stand alone color!

"IT IS NOT A STAND ALONE COLOR DO NOT USE IT LIKE ONE! You use it to deepen colors. Ive been seeing reviews about how people are disappointed because they wanted black hair and it was reccomended by a Sally expert. That is on sallys not on this company. Yes it has a spot where it says color additive but it also doesnt say it can be used as a stand alone color. Why its very important to read the entirety of the product specifications. It states clearly what it is for. Even going into customer reviews to see why they left the review they did so some would see that it was used as a stand alone color and then them realizing its not what its used for. What I would reccomend doing for the people who left bad reviews for the whole it didnt turn my hair black is leave those reviews for Sally hair experts, not for the good dye young product. Any product Ive tried from them is amazing and anytime I choose to deepen one of my vivid colors I will use this. Its great for an ombre effect using the same vivids."

Bad

"Worst black dye I've used I've tried it twice and it barely changed my hair color. Next I'll try mixing it with a green and see if it works."

Best Black Dye I’ve Used

"After using other brands that left a disgusting green tint in my hair when they faded, I finally invested a box of None More Black. Probably the best decision I’ve made in the last few years. First look I did was obviously a at-home fox tails look. 😁 It was very exciting, and I’m excited to buy more colors!!!"

Luck of the dye

"I love my hair color so vibrant and I love how the dye smells like lemons so nice and refreshing"

Megan W. (5/5)

Fades super fast

"I was recommended this by a Sally's employee. I want to start by saying I had faded red which canceled out those blue undertones. I did really want to love this, and I did right after it was done. Since it was done Ive washed it twice with COLD water and had used color sealer the first wash. Unfortunately it faded so much faster than any other semi permanent hair color ive ever used:("

It's blue

"It's blue. 100% blue. Is it a pretty blue? Yeah. But this is way to expensive to not make your hair the color its advertising. I followed every direction. If you want dark blue hair, then I'd buy this. But if you want black, stay awayyyyy. Excuse the black void I left on my photo pls. But yeahhhh it is blue"

Aptly named!

"The color is great on and leaves the hair feeling so soft and refreshed!"

Okay, GDY!

"I am giving my hair a break from bleach and have just been going with my natural hair (dark brown) until I decided I really wanred to do something and maybe that just meant taking it back to my scene kid days and coloring it black. Wow! This dye is amazing! The fact I didn't have to wash it out of my hair, just rinse and dry and it felt so amazing and healthy afterwards! LOVE IT!"

Q&A

Is your hair dye free of BPP? I am looking for a black hair dye that I will not be Allergic to
All Good Dye Young Semi-Perms are vegan formulas with no PPD, no peroxide, no ammonia and no other harmful ingredients. While Good Dye Young hair color is PPD free to minimize the risk of adverse reactions, it’s still recommended you perform a patch test by using the following method: Choose a small area of skin roughly the size of a penny for the test, preferably somewhere discreet such as behind the ear or in the inner fold of your elbow. Wash the test area with water and soap and dab dry with a clean towel. Place a thin coating of your chosen GDY dye upon the test area. Allow the dye to dry and leave it undisturbed and uncovered for 24 hours. Examine the test area for any signs of irritation. If there is a negative reaction, then the product should not be used by that person under any circumstances. Our None More Black was created as a black color additive to make our original bold colors darker. Since all of our dyes are semi-permanent hair dyes, they have underlying pigments, called undertones. Whether that be blue, yellow, or red (ours is blue) the underlying pigments/colors of a black semi-permanent dye from any brand will still show through. While this shade can be used on its own, we suggest using a permanent dye any time you’d like to dye your hair a true black!
