This formula gently, easily, and safely lifts hair 4-5 levels. It contains a 25 volume developer that is powerful enough to lift the hair while being safe for at-home lightening.

During the lightening process, moisture loss is replenished with conditioning ingredients that help keep hair feeling soft, strong, and nourished.

How To Use Pro Tips Ingredients

Step 1. Mix
In a plastic bowl, mix the pre-measured Powder and Developer until smooth and fully blended. Use only the components included in this single-use kit. Do not mix with other lightening products or mix multiple kits in the same bowl at once.

Step 2. Test
Before full application, it is essential to perform a strand test on hair and to complete a patch test on skin if applying to the scalp.

For a strand test, apply a small amount of lightener to a section of hair on the back/underneath and process for 30–50 minutes. Rinse and assess the condition of the hair. If it feels overly stretchy or cotton-like, do not proceed.

For a patch test, apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and process for 30–50 minutes. If irritation occurs, avoid scalp application.

Step 3. Prep
Start with clean and completely dry hair. Always wear gloves before you begin the application process.

Step 4. Apply
Section hair into four parts by dividing down the middle and across from crown to ear. Using your hands or a brush, begin applying the GDY Lightening Kit to the bottom and middle sections first, starting about 1 inch away from the roots. Fully saturate each section working up the head.

Pro Tip: Heat from the scalp causes lightener to process faster. Apply to the roots last, once the rest of the hair is about two levels away from your desired color to help avoid hot roots. Fully saturate the hair and cover with it plastic wrap to keep the lightener from drying out. Protect your hairline and ears with shea butter, coconut oil, or thick conditioner.

Step 5. Process
Allow hair to process for up to 50 minutes, checking every 5–10 minutes until your desired lift is achieved.

Step 6. Rinse
Rinse thoroughly with warm water, then shampoo and condition until all product is removed.

Step 7. Wait
If your hair has not reached your desired level of lightness after 50 minutes, wait at least 24 hours before lightening again.

Step 8. Color
Before applying GDY Semi-Permanent Hair Color, ensure hair is completely dry. Then, you’re ready for color!

When lightening hair, always save about an inch of your roots for last. The heat from your scalp causes lightener to work faster and will lift your roots quicker than the rest of your hair. This will ensure an even lift.
To optimize performance and safety, do not mix the GDY Lightening Kit with other lightening products or kits. If using more than one kit, mix each in a separate bowl. Do not store or reuse once mixed.

Before applying a cool-toned semi-permanent dye, you may need to tone your newly lightened hair. If you don’t, the underlying tones in your hair will mix with the semi-permanent color potentially creating an unwanted result. If your hair lifts more orange, use a blue based (ash) toner. If it lifts yellow, use a purple based toner. This will neutralize the unwanted tones and create a natural blonde base for your semi-permanent color. Try our Platinum DYEposit as a toner!
The scalp is more sensitive when it is that time of the month, so save yourself some pain and don’t lighten your hair while on your menstrual cycle.

Q&A

How does this compare with traditional bleaching products? Is it pretty dummy proof? I am the dummy lol. Or do I need to be able apply it with as much skill as I would typical bleach? Also, I have about an inch or two of grow out from my scalp to bleached hair (I'm naturally light blonde). Would it be risky to use this kit, as it may create a banding effect? While our developer is a lower volume from what you may have used before, this lightening kit still features a bleach and developer. You can use the GDY Lightening Kit on your regrowth, but we strongly advise you do not overlap onto previous lightened hair as this can cause breakage. With 1"-2" of regrowth, slight banding is to be expected. The immediate root will be a little lighter than the area lower than that between the first half inch and previous lightener.
