Go behind the scenes of Good Dye Young’s first ever NYFW sponsorship led by Brian O’Connor with the assistance of work from our very own Fruits Hair Lab stylists. Our own Hayley Williams on the show: "The most fun I've ever had attending a fashion show and I'm so proud Good Dye Young & Fruits Hair Lab could be a small part of bringing yalls vision together."
Susan Alexandra and Rachel Antonoff partnered on a New York Fashion Week show that was playfully inspired by "The Best In Show" award from beloved dog show competitions. More than that, the show also supported and advocated for dog adoption, a cause near and dear to the two designers. Dogs available for adoption from Animal Haven and Muddy Paws Rescue strutted their stuff down the runway alongside models styled by Brian and the Fruits Hair Lab team.
We sat down with Brian to learn a little about his vision. He explained, "Playing off the ‘The Best in Show’ theme and overall vision Susan and Rachel had for the show, I wanted to bring a few different looks that played well and consistently with each other but still brought something a little special on their own. I also created the looks specifically for the ‘Rosette’ pins that Susan Alexandra created. The Rosette pins mimicked the ribbons you would see winners wear from an actual dog show. They were so fun and we wanted to make sure they got the credit and attention they deserved. With that, all of these looks were sort of customized around these pins."

Other than the adorable dog models, the pink wigs really stole the show. Brian told us he, "pulled inspo from Shirley MacLaine in ‘What a Way to Go,’ where she had this big blush rosy pink wig. I wanted to create two different pink shades for the wigs so that again they played well together but weren’t exactly the same. For the first wig we used Good Dye Young’s ‘Pink Puff’ semi-perm, which is a cotton candy-colored, pastel pink. For the second wig, I wanted to do something a little more custom so we used Pink Puff, Gravedigger, and Du Hast. My team did an incredible job, dying, styling, and applying these wigs. They turned out absolutely incredible and really amped up the overall theme amongst the entire group of models without feeling two overwhelming or taking away from the clothes & accessories."
The end result was a whimsical, joyful, nostalgic experience that remind us to have fun with fashion. |
