Decade of Dye Community Spotlight: Ramona + Ex-Girl

Meet the community behind the color. To celebrate 10 years of Good Dye Young, we put out a casting call on social media and invited our community to help us tell our story.  In less than 24 hours, more than 500 people applied to be part of our Decade of Dye campaign. From those submissions, we selected 8 community members to represent the 8 original shades that launched GDY back in 2016.

Meet Ramona, wearing Ex-Girl.

How long have you been using color?

“3 years!”

Pink is an incredibly flattering hair color on all skin tones and hair types, which makes it the perfect shade to get you started on your vibrant hair journey. It’s a no brainer that it’s the shade that is keeping Ramona bright and bold, even after three years!

What is your favorite thing about Good Dye Young?

“The name :) and so many colors!”

“Dye Happy” was an early iteration of GDY’s branding, but Good Dye Young ultimately ended up being the name that stuck — and we are so glad that out community loves it, too!

What does community mean to you?

“Community means showing up”

As a photographer, Ramona sees photography as a way to connect with people, and her hair color is an extension of that desire for connection.

Why Ex-Girl?

Ramona is wearing Ex-Girl, one of the eight OG shades that launched Good Dye Young in 2016.

For Ramona, Ex-Girl is her go-to pink shade for making her feel fun and unforgettable.

The Story Behind the Shade: Ex-Girl

Like every original GDY shade name, Ex-Girl came from the creative world Hayley and Brian were building when they launched the brand, drawing inspiration from the films, music, pop culture references, and the stories they loved.

Bold & impossible to ignore, Ex-Girl is GDY’s best-selling shade year after year. Our signature hot pink shade is inspired by Gwen Sefani's iconic, bright pink hair from the 2000 No Doubt "Ex-Girlfriend" music video.
