Walk Down Memory Lane with Hayley Williams & Brian O’Connor for National Best Friends Day

Some things just work better together. Hair color and confidence. Creativity and community. Hayley Williams and Brian O’Connor.

Before Good Dye Young became a global hair color brand, it started with two best friends collaborating on creative projects together. We always say that Riot is the shade that started it all, because it is!

Hayley Williams & Brian O'Connor

After a trip to Japan where Hayley fell in love with Tokyo street style, she walked into a salon in Nashville called The Pink Mullet looking for a bold change that would help take her style and presentation as an artist to the next level. Brian was apprenticing at the salon at the time, and he assisted in creating the yellow tips that featured in Paramore’s music video for “Emergency.”

When Hayley later returned to the salon, she put her trust in Brian to craft the iconic bright orange look that starred in Paramore’s music video for “Misery Business” in 2006. When Good Dye Young launched in 2016, Riot was one of the first shades that Hayley and Brian wanted to package in a tube and share with you all. Since then, Hayley and Brian have built a world rooted in self-expression, collaboration, and showing up exactly as you are — all while making each other laugh along the way.

Brian has helped Hayley craft some of her most memorable hair moments, like her Still Into You split dye, her This Is Why orange with black tips, her signature “Ego” Death at a Bachelorette Party yellow, her witchy Infusions looks, her anime-inspired Glitched wig, her strawberry blonde NYFW look, and many, many more!

In honor of National Best Friends Day, we’re reflecting on our favorite behind-the-scenes moments from over the years: late nights on set, backstage chaos, color testing, music video memories, tour days, and all the little in-between moments that shaped GDY into what it is today.

Because friendship and community have always been at the heart of Good Dye Young.

A FRIENDSHIP MOMENT YOU CAN WEAR

The Ego Death Archive Photo Tee captures one of those real behind-the-scenes memories, featuring a candid photo of Hayley and Brian taken during the Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party music video shoot.

One part keepsake, one part wearable memory, one part style — all parts friendship!

THANKS FOR BEING OUR FRIEND

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just started rocking with GDY, thank you for being part of our community! We are where we are today because you built this space with us.

Happy National Best Friends Day!
