We’re in the business of transforming hair! Good Dye Young’s Pro Team of professional stylists is the epicenter of our creative community, and they inspire us every single day with their incredible artistry. This Pride Month, we’re giving LGBTQ+ stylists on the GDY Pro Team the platform to tell their story and show the GDY community how pride and hair color share space in their salons. For many in the LGBTQ+ community, an affirming haircut or color can be a transformative act of authenticity. Our Pro Stylists are a key part of that journey, and they do everything they can to help their clients express themselves confidently, creatively, and safely.

Meet GDY Pro Stylist Ethan Hansen (@EthanHansen4Hair), a hair colorist and photographer specializing in creative transformations. After growing up in a salon his entire life with a single mother who owned a salon, Ethan would beg to go to all the classes and play with the doll heads. Today, Ethan’s work is all about pushing boundaries, breaking the rules of hair, and redefining what’s considered “normal” in the industry. His passion is about turning visions into art and creating looks that challenge perception and spark inspiration.
What does PRIDE mean to you personally?
Pride to me means owning your story no matter how big or small and learning to love yourself and others throughout that process. It’s about freedom in self-expression, authenticity, and creating space for people to exist fully as themselves without fear or apology.
How can hair color and affirming styles help clients feel like the most authentic version of themselves?
Hair color and affirming styles can elevate someone into the highest version of their self-expression. Whether it’s a full head of Ex-Girl or just a strand of Nasty, something as simple or dramatic as color can completely transform how someone sees themselves. These changes may seem small to others, but they can genuinely change someone’s confidence and life in an instant.
How do you play a role in that experience as a stylist or colorist, to create a safe, affirming space?
As a stylist, my biggest priority is making people feel safe in my chair. Things like dandruff, scalp psoriasis, trichotillomania, being a sex worker, cutting or coloring your own hair, social anxiety, sensory issues, not wanting to talk, or not fully knowing what you want are all things people deal with every day. My job is to make clients feel accepted, comfortable, and cared for without judgment because everyone deserves to feel safe while expressing themselves.
What is your personal relationship to GDY shades and color?
My relationship with GDY has been amazing. Being part of the pro team has allowed me to see the amount of love, intention, and care that goes into everything the brand creates. I deeply admire how GDY stands up for inclusivity and authenticity within all spaces. And beyond that the colors are incredible. The pigments truly deliver that bold punch while still being thoughtfully formulated with intention and creativity behind every shade.
