Decade of Dye Community Spotlight: Trey + Blue Ruin

Meet the community behind the color. To celebrate 10 years of Good Dye Young, we out out a casting call on social media and invited our community to help us tell our story.  In less than 24 hours, more than 500 people applied to be part of our Decade of Dye campaign. From those submissions, we selected 8 community members to represent the 8 original shades that launched GDY back in 2016.

Meet Trey, wearing Blue Ruin.

Name: Trey
Pronouns: He/Him

How long have you been using color?
“Middle school... fell in love since then"

What started as an early fascination with vivid hair became a lasting form of self-expression for Trey, and GDY is so lucky to be part of his journey! As a photographer, creativity is part of how he sees the world, and color is one more way that he can communicate who he is without saying a word.

What is your favorite thing about Good Dye Young?
“The range of forms of expression they offer, anyone can be a part of the good dye young family"

That sense of openness and belonging is exactly what makes the GDY community so special.

What does community mean to you?
“Finding people that embrace your truest self, celebrating each other's spirit"

We couldn’t agree more, Trey! It's a sentiment that feels especially fitting as we celebrate ten years of color, creativity, and connection.

The Story Behind the Shade: Blue Ruin

Blue Ruin was inspired by the iconic blue hair worn by Clementine Kruczynski in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

One of GDY's original OG shades, it delivers rich cobalt pigment with cool undertones for a vibrant, high-impact blue that has stood the test of time.

Like every original GDY shade name, Blue Ruin came from the creative world Hayley and Brian were building when they launched the brand, drawing inspiration from the films, music, pop culture references, and the stories they loved.

Ten years later, it's still one of the most recognizable colors in the GDY lineup.
