Decade of Dye Community Spotlight: Brooke + Narwhal

Meet the community behind the color. To celebrate 10 years of Good Dye Young, we put out a casting call on social media and invited our community to help us tell our story.  In less than 24 hours, more than 500 people applied to be part of our Decade of Dye campaign. From those submissions, we selected 8 community members to represent the 8 original shades that launched GDY back in 2016.

How long have you been using color?

“7 years! Narwhal for 5!”

Brooke loves blues, pinks, purples, cool tones, pastels, yellows, and neons — but it looks like she’s found her forever shade in Narwhal.

What is your favorite thing about Good Dye Young?

“Smells really good =)” 

Thanks for noticing, Brooke! We formulate our semi-perms with Bergamot Oil which infuses your hair with a woodsy citrus scent that your scalp (and your nose) will love. 

What does community mean to you?

“My community is my family! As RuPaul once said… as queer people, we get to choose our families. It isn’t all sunshine + rainbows but it’s all love. Thank Gay God for my chosen family <3”

We couldn’t have said it better than Brooke, or RuPaul. Good Dye Young is happy to provide our community with a safe space to experiment with color, express themselves safely and confidently, and make friends with lots of really cool people along the way.

Why Narwhal?

Brooke is wearing Narwhal, one of the eight OG shades that launched Good Dye Young in 2016.

It’s safe to say that it’s a longtime love affair, as Brooke has been coming back to Narwhal for five years as her signature shade.

The Story Behind the Shade: Narwhal

Like every original GDY shade name, Narwhal came from the creative world Hayley and Brian were building when they launched the brand, drawing inspiration from the films, music, pop culture references, and the stories they loved.

Inspired by the mythical "unicorn of the sea," Narwhal  is an electric teal that embodies fearless creativity and individuality. Its name reflects the playful, unconventional spirit that has defined Good Dye Young from the very beginning.
