Prior to purchasing this product, I have used Riot (Orange) in my hair and loved it so much! The red-tinted orange was just so stunning. I looked into PPL Eater since I wanted to change colors. So lesson learned – yes, it is a blue- based purple, but too much blue pigment. I had prebleached my hair to almost white, in hopes of the blue tones that people complained about would not be true. But it just straight out looked blue. Based on social media comments, I tried to cancel out the blue with the red dye, Rock Lobster. It seemed to do the trick and turned most of my hair purple. But it looked more of a very dark, almost black, plum-like violet and some of the blue is still showing through. And my roots, which is virgin hair bleached, somehow looks almost maroon/ red-violet. Sorry, GDY, but this color is simply a miss. Guys – sorry, but I think based on all the complaints you might want to do a different formula for this color.

Hi Monica! Thank you for your review on PPL Eater. We are sorry you had a poor experience using GDY. As you know, PPL Eater is a blue based purple that can have more of a blue hue depending on the hair. Please feel free to email us at hey@gooddyeyoung.com if you have any other questions!

So I’m really torn about GDY in general. First try I ordered yellow from Sephora, received a yellow box with a tube of orange color. Had to return it. Tried purple, and it straight came out blue. There is not even a hint of purple or lavender after rinsing out the product. We used fader, too. It sat on my daughters hair for an hour, shooting for a a lighter purple, and when we rinsed her hair, it was plain, light blue. Again, NO PURPLE from day one. Seriously disappointed. The colors look so cool and versatile with the fader and mixes that can be done, but geez, to buy yellow and get the wrong product altogether, the. To buy purple and get blue hair, it just isn’t cool.

Thank you for your review on PPL Eater. We are so sorry you had a poor experience using GDY. The essential oils in our product can cause our yellow to appear orange in the tube, but when you wash it out of the hair it will be yellow! Our purple is a blue based purple. Our favorite mixture for a warmer purple is Ex-Girl with a few drops of PPL Eater. We would love to discuss more with you. Please email us at hey@gooddyeyoung.com!

Pros: the dye smells amazing and felt so good in my hair. It conditioned my hair so well, which I’ve never experienced with a dye before. It looked awesome for the first few weeks, even though some of it turned blue (which I was not upset about). I got so many compliments on it.
Cons: I’m now stuck with mint green hair and every stripping method I’ve tried isn’t getting rid of it.
I love this dye so much but it stained my hair really bad. I’m sure other colors aren’t like this, maybe it’s something with this particular one I’m not sure. Have used ex girl before and it was amazing

Hi! Thank you for your review on PPL Eater. We are glad you loved the color! As it fades, the color can tend to stick around depending on how porous the hair is. Feel free to email us at hey@gooddyeyoung.com if you have any questions!

After one wash it was already pretty much blue and after probably a month it turned green. Dyed it at the end of March and parts of my hair are still green. Gave it two stars because at least it lasts

This was my second time purchasing and using GDY – I have previously used Ex-Girl and loved it. The application of Ppl Eater went on great and the color looked awesome for the first few weeks, but I caution others before buying this hair dye if you don’t want your hair to fade to blue. This color is BLUE based. (My hair was bleached and it’s a weird turquoise right now.) Pretty disappointed because I love and want to support GDY products. My friend, however, also used Ppl Eater over her virgin dirty blonde hair and it’s turned into the coolest indigo color that she’s really happy with. Would love if GDY came out with a second purple color that fades to silver because I would buy that in two seconds!

I’ve never dyed my hair so I thought purple was the perfect color to start with. I’ve seen positive reviews for this PPL EATER so I bought it at my local Sally’s I applied it to my dark brown hair. I saw the pictures of this color on your website with dark hair colored so I figured it would also work with mine. Well.. it didn’t Im not sure if I did anything wrong or skipped steps but the color didn’t really show I tried three times on my tips and didn’t see a difference. As I went to wash it out with cold water all the dye came off.

Thank you for your review. We’re so sorry you didn’t have a good experience using GDY. Our darker colors can add a tint to darker hair but if it is darker than a level 5 there is a possibility that it may not show up. Please email us at hey@gooddyeyoung.com for more information!

I never write reviews on anything but felt like I needed to…
This dye was a very pretty purple at first but faded very quickly to blue. Its now neon blue and turning green very quickly. I wish I would have read the reviews on this before I put it in my hair, my fault I guess! Still extremely disappointing, now I’m trying to figure out how to get blue/green out of my blonde hair 🙁

We are so sorry to hear that you had a poor experience using PPL Eater. PPL Eater is a blue based purple and certain hair types hold on to the blue pigments more. If you can email us at hey@gooddyeyoung.com we would love to talk more about your experience!

Okay, so LISTEN.
This hairdye is AMAZING in color and in the smell. Omg it smells so good when you squeeze this stuff out.
Yknow how they said its pigmented? Well, GIRL. ITS PIGMENTED. You want paste colors, literally only add one dallop of color and the rest fader. I didnt do that ( cause i wanted my roots to be darker) and it turned a really pretty navy/vibrant purple on me.
As someone who has dyed her hair alot, i know that it’ll fade and it’s gonna look GLORIOUS. The outcome was darker than i expected but i am LIVING for the color when its under the sun. Its like “BAM. HI. HOW ARE YA?!”
Soooo all in all, yeah. I would 10/10 say it got the job done. Imma try a different color next time but WOO GDY!

Feeling really disappointed in this color. Wanted to get a nice light purple, so I mixed with a lot of gdy fader. Turned my hair very very purple after leaving it in only 15 minutes. Tried to wash it out, and my hair immediately faded to a neon blue, which is not at all what I wanted. Don’t think I’d ever recommend this product.
Becca Sievers –
Hi Lillie! We are so sorry that you weren’t able to achieve the color that you wanted. When mixing colors with Fader, you only need a small dot of color compared to Fader! We would love to discuss more with you. Feel free to send us an email at hey@gooddyeyoung.com!

I’d seen comments on Ppl Eater not working and it just making your hair blue, but I decided to try it because I’ve been loyal to gDy since I started dyeing my hair. I used only a small amount of it with a lot of ex-girl and it very quickly turned blue! Extremely disappointing especially because I had blue ruin in my hair for over a year and didnt want blue anymore. After getting that removed, I have blue hair again… DO NOT USE unless you want blue hair.

Gabriella,

I ordered PPL Eater and it didn’t really dye my hair purple. I started out with blonde, virgin hair, it was purple for one day, then went blue and now is a weird shade of green. This is disappointing as this was my one shot to dye my hair as I am out on maternity leave from a job that doesn’t let me use unnatural colors. I always wanted purple hair so I am sad that it didn’t last and now I’m stuck with green hair. Even the day that it was purple, it wasn’t very bright. I’m very disappointed as all of the reviews were awesome and your dyes came highly recommended
Becca Sievers –
Kelsey,
We are so sorry that you had a poor experience with GDY. Depending on the hair type, the red pigments in PPL Eater can potentially wash out of the hair cuticle before the blue pigments do which results in PPL Eater fading blue. If there is anything we can do for you or if you would like more information on why this may have happened, please email us at info@gooddyeyoung.com!

In my dying experience purples have had a difficult time staying pigmented with my hair (don’t know why, they just always fade out too quickly) but the formula of ppl eater is by far the best I have ever used. I have my hair a lilac color using just this and fader, and it is my favorite shade yet! Getting the color I wanted on my damaged hair from years of bleaching, the formula makes my hair feel so healthy! I’m switching to 100% gdy products after this experience legit

Hi!
We’re so happy you’ve had such a positive experience with PPL Eater! Our semi-permanent dyes are formulated with conditioning properties such as Sunflower extract which helps naturally revive your hair from the tolls taken by the dyeing process. Thank you so much for your support!

I’ve been wanting to dye my hair for YEARS and have just never gotten the courage to do it UNTIL LIKE A COUPLE DAYS AGO I GUESS. This dye was amazing, smelled super good, and I used like… barely any and it was still super pigmented. I have v short hair so that’s one thing, but I probably only used like? A tablespoon or two? of dye and then a bunch of white conditioner and even after mixing them together it was still JUST AS PURPLE it was amazing and now I’m rockin some purple hair and I love it. I didn’t bleach the top part of my hair as long as the rest (bc i’m impatient) so the longest part of my hair is more of an ashy dark blue while the rest is a poppin purple but it looks cool I’m a fan. <3 And the fact that it's all vegan is a huge plus!!!

I love love love this color!! It’s so creamy and pigmented but it didn’t stain anything! If I got it on my skin I just washed it with Dawn dish soap and it rubbed right off and same with the counters and floors! (Yes I’m very messy) My hair was a light faded pink and I decided not to bleach because I wanted to see what it would look like, it’s purple in some lights but a deep blue in others. It’s awesome!! It also left my usually very dry hair feeling silky soft 🙂 i can’t wait to try other colors!!! I just ? it!! Thanks for letting me fufill my ? dreams!!
Hallie from GDY –
Hey Karyssa!
