What does it do?

Our semi-permanent hair dye line combines salon-grade pigments with a nontoxic, conditioning formula that deposits ultra vibrant color. Semi-permanent hair dyes do not damage the hair, in fact they’re super conditioning! GDY’s formula combines a high-quality cream base, like a hair mask with essential oil benefits. The color is deposited on top of the hair shaft and acts like a stain that will fade out over time each time you wash your hair. Color can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. We recommend using color protecting hair care like our GDY Color Kind Line to keep color vibrant longer.

Is this for my hair?
Our semi-permanent dyes will show the truest color on pre-lightened hair, levels 8-10. We recommend using our Lightening Kit to get the perfect base shade for your color.

What does it smell like?
Fragranced with Bergamot essential oil, our semi-permanent dye has a light citrus scent that is mood lifting.

Is this for my hair?

Our semi-permanent dyes will show the truest color on pre-lightened hair, levels 8-10. We recommend using our Lightening Kit to get the perfect base shade for your color.

What to know?
Semi-perm is a thick, conditioning formula, no need to mix with a conditioner.
Color payoff will vary based how much hair is lightened as well as on the porosity of the hair and underlying hair chemistry. We recommend a hair strand test to determine color payoff.

  • Pink Puff shows up best on level 10 blonde hair.
  • Pink Puff will most likely add a rose gold tint to medium blonde hair (level 7-8)
  • If you want to change up your pastel looks often, Pink Puff is a good one to start with. Our lighter colors (Pink Puff, Peach Fuzz, Stoned Pony) tend to be easier to remove from the hair.

I opened the package super excited, but once I looked at the dye in the tube it was practically white, that worried me but I decided to continue anyways. My hair was platinum blonde practically white and I put the dye on for an hour, there is a couple of small spots with a tiny bit of pink tint but the rest is entirely blonde, the same color it was before applying. Waste of 40$.

      Hi There,

Thank you for your feedback and review. If you are looking for a more vibrant pastel we suggest using Ex-Girl and our fader to get the perfect pastel pink you want.

I was so excited to try this new colour out, as I usually have my hair pastel pink by mixing darker dye with conditioner. My hair started out platinum and I was concerned right away when I saw the colour come out of the tube and it was barely pink. I applied it on my hair (which is maybe 2 inches long) and had to use the whole tube and it still didn’t darken in colour like I would have assumed as most colours do when they start to develop. I left it on for 2 hours hoping that though it was definitely not going to come out the same colour as the photo, that it would at least deposit some colour. But alas, once I washed it out my hair barely even has a tint of pink, if anything it looks almost the same as when I started. I’m so sad about this because I had such high hopes. This leaves me not wanting to try out other colours in fear of the same results or lack there of.

      Hi Morgan,

Im sorry you didn’t love your Pink Puff experience. We appreciate your feedback! If you are looking for a more vibrant pastel we do recommend using our Ex-Girl with fader. Thanks for your review.

I honestly think Pink Puff should be rebranded as a color-depositing mask, not a dye. I absolutely love the smell and the conditioning this product does for my bleached hair, but there was the most minimal color payoff. My hair was a bleached balayage before with the ends being level 10, so I thought that it would include all the shades from the swatch picture but the only parts that took color were the ends on the back of my head, and even then it looks like the ‘after’ picture on dark blonde. I was really excited to have pastel pink hair and left it on for an hour and 10 min but because there was barely any color change happening and the price is steep, I will have to find my ideal pastel pink elsewhere. 🙁

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Olivia,

I’m sorry you didn’t love your pink puff experience. All our Lighter Daze products show truest on level 10 (platinum blonde) You may want to try out Ex-Girl for a more vibrant look, you can even mix in conditioner or Fader to make it slightly pastel too. Thanks for your review.

I have level 10 platinum blonde hair. This dye lasted in my hair for approximately a week before fading out, after one wash! I’m normally not a pastel color type of person, I’m more into buying brighter colors and fading them with conditioner so I get longer wear time but the photos from this collection made me buy it! Too much money for the payoff, especially when you don’t get enough product to cover your whole head.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Reese,

Thanks for your review! As you know pastels have less of a pigment load than our original vibrant colors, so that it can give you that pastel effect. Due to their being less pigment means that it could wash out quicker than you’re used to. We recommend waiting as long as possible to wash and when you do wash it use color safe shampoo and conditioner and cool/cold water to keep the color in as much as you can. You may need more than once bottle of dye, but this is all dependent on the thickness and length of the hair. I appreciate your feedback!

I have super light, heavily bleached hair and this product still left me with essentially no color payoff after I used it as directed. I usually love GDY products and was really happy with my experience with Stoned Pony (on the same level of bleached hair), so Pink Puff just felt like a waste of money in comparison.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There!

I’m sorry you didn’t love your experience with Pink Puff. Our Lighter Daze line is a pastel line so it is fairly light and requires a level 10 (platinum blonde) base for it to show up properly. If you are looking for a more vibrant pastel, I suggest trying our Ex-Girl with Fader. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to our expert.

After reading all the reviews, I put a TON of work into lightening my hair high enough to get the color payoff shown in the photos for Pink Puff. Ultimately, I got somewhere lighter than a 9 but not quite a 10. I even took the time to tone my lightened hair to get any orange-yellow tones out because I wanted that beautiful, intense pastel pink pictured.

So, on the day I applied Pink Puff I washed my hair with Wash, skipped the conditioner as directed, and let my hair fully air dry before putting even a drop of dye on it. I applied the dye with my hands, taking great care to fully saturated every single strand.

(NOTE: I have medium length, medium thickness hair. I ordered 2 bottles and I ran out of dye before finishing the last section because of how saturated I made sure each strand was. So if you do buy Pink Puff and your hair is shoulder length with any kind of thickness, definitely buy 4 bottles.)

After getting all the dye applied, I put a cap on and sat for an hour. Then I washed it out as directed on the package, and was super excited to see what I hoped would be the super vivid pastel pink pictured here on GDY!

But I was super let down to see my hair was just a faint rose-ish gold-ish. There was almost no color payoff with this dye, and certainly nothing like what is pictured. Because of how light my hair was when I started, it’s hard to imagine even a perfect, white level 10 getting the color payoff advertised.

I wouldn’t recommend this dye if you’re looking for what’s in the picture UNLESS you are starting with *literally* the whitest of white hair you can imagine. And I’m still not convinced you’ll get the payoff shown even if you do. I did order another 2 bottles of Pink Puff so I can finish what I started, but I’m definitely going to have to look for my desired shade of pink somewhere else.

This dye does smell absolutely amazing though and will leave you hair deliciously soft. So that’s a win!

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Caitlin,

Thanks for your in-depth review. Pink puff is a soft pastel color so it does have less pigment which is why it shows up the absolute best on level 10 (platinum blonde) hair. If you are looking for a brighter pink I would suggest our other pink Ex-Girl! I am glad to hear you enjoyed the smell and the softness your hair was left with. I hope you are able to find a color you absolutely love.

  7. Kody Jauron (verified owner)

This pastel pink is really lovely in photos, unfortunately I lightened my hair to a level 9 and it barely showed up so when they say level 10, they definitely mean level 10.

I went to the beauty supplies store and got the Ex-Girl + Fader after trying to use Pink Puff and the two together were much more successful at attaining a more pigmented light pink and I’ve gotten a ton a compliments! I would recommend looking into that option if it’s more difficult to get to that platinum blonde level. 🙂

I’m hoping to lighten my hair to a level 10 after this color fades and to try this product a second time as it would be much more convenient to just have to buy one bottle of dye.

Excited to keep trying more colors!

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There!

Thanks for your review! I’m glad you were able to get your desired color even if it wasn’t with Pink Puff this time. Level 10 (platinum blonde) hair is the best way for these Lighter Daze colors to show up. Looking forward to you trying other colors!

I was really looking forward to this color! I’ve heard only good things, but i bought the lightener and the pink puff! (alongside the shampoo and conditioner) My hair was a little light before i even lightened , so i was pretty sure the pink would show up and it didn’t . I let it sit for an hour and nothing happened, it’s just almost a brassy orange color. It smells amazing but very disappointed in the color.. :/

I do really like the light bubblegum color it turned out, however, it is nowhere near the color in the pictures. I ended up using an entire tube on a buzzed head when typically I used about a third of a tube. I had to apply it twice and left it on for over an hour both times. It still smells amazing and makes my hair feel amazing but it’s nowhere near the color pay off I’ve grown to love from other GDY colors (even other lighter daze colors).

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There!

Thanks for your review. Pink puff is a pastel pink which means that the heavy pigment you may be used to in our other colors is cut down a bit to give you that soft pastel pink. Thanks for being a fan!

When I used Pink Puff, I made sure my hair was lightened a LOT, using two Lightening Kits to lighten it twice to get a nice base for this light color. However, after slathering it all over and leaving it in for an hour, it barely left any color, it certainly wasn’t like the pictures. And after a single wash – which I waited to do for a couple days and used Wash and Rinse – the teeniest bit of color that WAS there was gone. Really disappointed in the color. The one great thing I liked about the dye though was that it did indeed condition my hair, leaving it very soft! And it certainly smelled wonderful. However, I think the color could really use some help. Next time I’m just gonna get Ex-Girl and wait till it fades to a light pink.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Kelsey,

Thanks for your review. For our Lighter Daze line we will say your hair needs to be a level 10 (platinum blonde) for the color to show the absolute best. It is a pastel pink so it is less pigmented which results in it fading a little quicker. We highly suggest washing it sparingly and using color safe shampoo and conditioner when you do. I was SO excited to use this, but I’ve applied it 3 different times to my (lightened) hair and there is NO PIGMENT. I did everything I could think of, leaving it in for over an hour, making sure my hair was covered while it developed, etc. and there is still no pigment. So disappointed, I usually love y’all’s products 🙁

I was really excited to try this dye brand since I typically use Manic Panic. However, when I applied it I noticed something strange. The dye didn’t have any pigmentation and it appeared to look like conditioner in my hair in on my hands. I was really disappointed that I hadn’t read into the brand more. However, the product did smell good but it did not do its intended purpose.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There,

Pink puff is apart of our Lighter Daze collection. It is a pastel pink rather than our other pink color Ex-Girl which is much more vibrant. This will leave your hair a soft bubble gum pink. If you were wanting something more hot pink and vibrant I would suggest our color Ex-Girl from our original color line.

This is my first time ever using GDY products and also my first time dying my hair pink (pink has always been one of my favourite colours so idk why it took me so long to do it). But the result is AMAZING! The colour turned out like a soft-rosy-golden-pink since my previous bleach is a bit uneven. But I am still OBSESSED with this soft pink moment!
However, I almost ran out of dye when I still have 1/4 of my hair left to do LOL I guess if I had purchased 2 tubes of Pink Fluff and really drench my hair in it, the colour might turn out to be more pink! I’m definitely going to get more Pink Fuzz and continue on my pink hair journey!
Btw, GDY’s hair dye has to be the best smelling hair dye I’ve ever used! Cheers to you guys and I hope that GDY will soon be available to be purchased in Asia soon! (I’m form Hong Kong!)

I am so sad, but the product did not give me the result I wanted. I have 4c high porosity hair (my texture is very similar to the model) and I got a more tangerine color. I used the lighting kits and followed the instructions but the color did not turn out like the picture which I hoped. I do love the smell and I could tell it was conditioning but it did not give me the expected color. I used Peach Fuzz on some of my hair and it did turn out as expected but I had two whole bottles of Pink puff and it did not turn.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Bria,

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t get the exact color you were hoping for. For all our Lighter Daze colors we highly suggest the hair is lightened to a level 10 for it to show most true. Thanks for your review.

Hey friends! So this color is BEAUTIFUL! A true pastel, super pale, and the undertones are so nice. Some suggestions from me- make sure to purchase WAY more than you think you’ll need. My hair usually needs just one tube, and I really should have gotten 2/3. Because it’s pastel, you need to SATURATE every strand. This is not like blue ruin where if it touches something for a split second you’re dyed for life.
For my particular color I mixed peach fuzz into pink puff for my roots and length, then ran some stoned pony through the ends (she had some leftover blue hanging out at the tips and I just wanted to make sure the peach didn’t mix funny)
I’ve even purchased more of this color already because I love it so much. Make your pastel dreams come true!

Love it, my hair is so soft & the color is so pretty. It’s a soft, light pink and i couldn’t be happier with the results. It has just enough pigment in it to make the pink pop, but still keep that pastel look. 10/10 would recommend.

I cannot express how lovely this pink is!! First off, the legends are true: GDY smells like bottled sunshine and pure joy. This Pink Puff is wonderful- because it is exactly what it claims and sets out to be: a lovely, quaint, pastel pink. It is so easy to use. The packaging is gorgeous, and the pink came out on my medium-blonde hair as this lovely hint of bubblegum (How many times can you use the word “lovely” in a review?) I dyed streaks of my hair in a faded Paramore Self-titled tour tee while listening to Petals for Armor. Felt like my Queen, Hayley for a hot minute. The only warning or caution I would suggest with this dye: make sure you are actually looking for PASTEL pink– because that is what it is. It is light, and it will not come out like Ex-Girl. While I love Pink Puff, I am actually about to order some Ex-Girl. I figure Puff will fade very quickly, and I want to go bold with the pink streaks next time. Buy Pink Puff! She’s worth it!

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There!

Beautiful pink color. It was my first time dying my hair and I was so excited to be using this line. The smell is as amazing as everyone says and it stays in your hair for a long, long time. The pink has a lot of violet undertones out of the bottle so it can counteract some yellow which was so nice and gave a lot of dimension to my hair. I will advise everyone to get more than one bottle though!!! I luckily made more than one order and got peach fuzz as well and this saved me, but you need at least two bottles to fully dye your hair. Just some advice, but if you’re thinking of using this pink – do it! You won’t regret it!
