What does it do?

Our semi-permanent hair dye line combines salon-grade pigments with a nontoxic, conditioning formula that deposits ultra vibrant color. Semi-permanent hair dyes do not damage the hair, in fact they’re super conditioning! GDY’s formula combines a high-quality cream base, like a hair mask with essential oil benefits. The color is deposited on top of the hair shaft and acts like a stain that will fade out over time each time you wash your hair. Color can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. We recommend using color protecting hair care like our GDY Color Kind Line to keep color vibrant longer.

What does it smell like?
Fragranced with Bergamot essential oil, our semi-permanent dye has a light citrus scent that is mood lifting.

Is this for my hair?

Our semi-permanent dyes will show the truest color on pre-lightened hair, levels 8-10. We recommend using our Lightening Kit to get the perfect base shade for your color.

What to know?
Semi-perm is a thick, conditioning formula, no need to mix with a conditioner.
Color payoff will vary based how much hair is lightened as well as on the porosity of the hair and underlying hair chemistry. We recommend a hair strand test to determine color payoff.

Safe on:
All hair textures, pre lightened, chemically treated, keratin treated, and color treated hair.

  • Healthy hair focused, no PPDs, Ammonia, Sulfates, Parabens or other harsh for hair chemicals or additives.
  • Sunflower Extract adds extra UV protection from the sun and hot tools that fade hair.
  • Fragranced with essential oil Bergamot, known for its mood-lifting properties.
  • Ultra creamy formula that deeply conditions while depositing color.

Our Semi-permanent dyes are free from:

  • 4-ABP
  • Ammonia
  • Peroxide
  • Formaldehyde
  • PPD’s
  • Persulfates
  • Paraben
  • Resorcinol
  • MEA
  • Nickel
  • Bleach
  • Phthalates
  • All of our products are vegan and cruelty free
  • Step 1: To create the best canvas for your color, we recommend lightening your hair using our GDY Lightening Kit.
  • Step 2: Mix color in the GDY Color Mixing Bowl and use gloves to prevent staining hands.
  • Step 3: Ensure you strand test first before applying color all over your head.
  • Step 4: Section and apply directly onto dry hair. Make sure color is fully saturated at every step by combining product through each section.
  • Step 5: Let the color sit for at least 30 minutes.
  • Step 6: Rinse with cold water and style as desired with GDY Prime.
Care:

  • Allow at least 24 hours before your first shampoo.
  • Rinse hair with cool water each time you wash to minimize fading process.
  • Reduce hair washing days to extend color.

Tips:

  • While color is processing, use a cap to keep the color damp.
  • Coloring your hair is an investment. Make sure to use color protecting hair care like GDY’s Color Kind Line to keep color vibrant longer.
  • Product will stain, so protect hands, all surfaces and clothing.
  • Apply shea butter, coconut oil or thick conditioner to the hairline to prevent staining.
  • Check out our FAQ’s for more information
  • This blue dye is highly pigmented, giving you long lasting color that will fade into a lighter blue over time.
  • Not feeling that sort of commitment? Cut the pigment load by mixing in Fader, or try our pastel version of blue, Sky High!
  • Blue Ruin will add a tint to darker hair and show up vividly on level 7+ hair
  • Blue Ruin tends to bleed the most out of all of our dyes. We suggest shampooing it thoroughly after dyeing to remove the excess pigment from the hair. Don’t worry, that color isn’t going anywhere!
  • Add a few drops of None More Black to create a Navy Blue!

I personally completely underestimated how pigmented this colour would be. Every company claims their colours are but this one actually is *pigmented*!
It’s blue and everything else will actually be blue. My ears were blue. My feet were blue. My thighs were somehow also blue. Everything was blue like the Eifel 65 song.
Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I just underestimated how blue everything would be. I was able to clean it so no worries there.

My hair was similar to their brunette swatch and it turned out as shown for me. It faded to a greenish sheen but i don’t mind that, I was contemplating dying my hair green anyway.
You also don’t need a lot of colour! My hair ends slightly below my shoulder blades (I’m a small 1.64cm I if that helps) and I only needed 1 1/2 bottles which was also an amazing surprise.

10/10 I personally would recommend this dye and will definitely use it again ♡

    • Hallie From GDY

      Hi Jules!

Thank you so much for your review! Our Blue Ruin is definitely our most pigmented dye so it does tend to bleed for a bit longer than our other dyes. You can always wash your hair once in hot water to remove a bulk of the excess pigment! I hope this helps!

I wanted to love this color so bad! But I didn’t like the blue it put on to my hair and when I’m trying to take it out it won’t come out! I’ve bleached it and used color remover on it and it’s not this ugly blue Jean color. I’m afraid I’m going to have to cut it out if my hair because it’s not budging.

      Hey there!

Thanks for your review! Your concerns are totally valid and I’d love to help any way I can.

A couple of alternatives for lifting color out of the hair that’s not directing bleaching the hair:

      1. Use a sulfate shampoo like Head and Shoulders! Scrub scrub!
      2. We suggest trying a few vitamin C treatments: mix vitamin C powder with your shampoo, apply to damp hair, let sit under heat for around 20-30 minutes, and rinse. This should start stripping color out of the hair.
      3. Another method to stripping the color is doing a bleach wash, mixing our Lightening Kit or another hair bleach with your shampoo, apply to damp hair, keep on for 30-40 minutes, and rinse!

I hope this helps! Please feel free to reach out to us for further help!

The blue that this dye gives is so beautiful. However yes it stains a lot. Also, I have had this color in my hair since October. It’s now June. I have had it professionally bleached and it’s STILL green. I’m so upset, I am so tired of having green hair!!

I’m really sad to have to give this such a low rating but it absolutely did not work for me. I put this color on top of dirty blonde hair that had just the sliiiiiightest bit of red left in it from a dye job about four months before, so I really expected it to definitely come out more blue, but it had a much greener tint than I expected and came out closer to teal. That’s okay, though, I like teal! It also was originally SUPER dark on my hair — way darker than the picture. Again, though, that’s okay, it just indicates a lot of pigment.

The real problem is with the bleeding and staining. I expected some of that because, well, it’s semi-permanent dye, after all! But seriously, every shirt I wore got at least a slight blue ring around the neck, and if it was light, it was even worse. Not to mention my poor pillowcase… thankfully I had one that I use exclusively for sleeping in dyed hair. The thing that’s the worst is the way it stained my hair, though. I’ve used a few different brands and colors of dye in the past and they’ve all washed out of my hair within a month and a half or so, maybe leaving a bit of a tint but nothing crazy. This one made my natural highlights green, and what’s worse, the rest of my hair faded to dishwater grey. I’ve never chemically treated or bleached my hair and overall it’s pretty thick and healthy, so I was really disappointed by this. I need to go to a salon to get it color corrected now.

I think that this dye is probably best suited for use on someone with REALLY lightened hair who wouldn’t mind bleaching to get it out once it’s faded — and who has a mostly black wardrobe.

      Hello!

Thanks so much for your review! We’re so sorry for any trouble you’ve had with our Blue Ruin. Our Blue Ruin is one of our most pigmented dyes so it does tend to bleed a bit longer than our other shades. The best advice we can give to stop the bleeding is to wash your hair once in hot water. This will remove most of the excessive pigment from your hair and scalp which will minimize the amount of bleeding you experience! After this initial wash, we recommend washing once a week in cool/cold water with color safe hair care. This will extend the life of your color while also minimizing the amount of bleeding!

We’re so sorry for any trouble you were caused and we would love to make this right. Please email us at [email protected] so we can help you out!

Such a pretty color and smells really nice! It did stain my hands and my bathtub but I put bleach on the tub and rubbing alcohol on my hands to lift the dye. Will definitely buy again!

    • Hallie From GDY

      Hello!

Thank you for your review! Our Blue Ruin is one of our most pigmented dyes so it does have a tendency to stick around longer than other colors. We suggest lifting dye from your tub and countertops using bleach based cleansers just as you suggested or a paste of baking soda and water! Makeup wipes work great for removing dye from skin as well!

Such a cool, amazing product! Smells wonderful, leaves my hair feeling hydrated and soft, and the color is so versatile. Even when applied to darker brown hair, the blue comes through in such an awesome way.
My only complaint is that you have to be careful when washing out the dye – it WILL stain your skin for a bit, so don’t dye your hair on a Monday morning before you head to work!! (After a second face/body wash, the dye did mostly come out of my skin.) I know that GDY prides itself on the AMAZING pigment in their dyes, so I totally understand why the bleeding/staining happens. It’s just best to prepare yourself as best as possible for it! Honestly, the staining is kinda worth it for this color!

    • Hallie From GDY

      Hi Kaitlyn!

Thank you so much for your review! Our Blue Ruin is highly pigmented and tends to bleed a bit longer than our other colors. You can minimize semi-perm bleeding by washing once in hot water to remove as much excess pigment as possible!

Read the reviews!! Be ready for super blue pigment!!! I love the color but the blue hands and blue everything I own is still happening two weeks out and three washes in. Not gonna lie I won’t do this color again but I do love the color and get a lot of compliments. Smurf jokes haven’t stopped in my house.

      Hi there,

We pack our dyes with pigment to give you that long lasting vibrancy. Sometimes that pigment can bleed for a while. We suggest giving you hair a good scrub to get the excess pigment out, may even want to use some warmer water. Trust us that blue is not going anywhere! Thanks for your review.

I love this color, to be totally honest, but my god…how are people using this without turning into a smurf? I sweat and turned my forehead blue. Everything around me is blue. My neck, my ears, my fingernails – and I took precautions when applying the dye. It’s just still everywhere from rinsing out. I have pretty much accepted that I’m just going to be in my own blue man group for the next……few months? Who knows.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi there,

Im glad you love the vibrancy of this color. We pack our dyes with pigment which can lead to excess bleeding. We recommend giving your hair a good scrub and use warm/hot water to cut some of the pigment. Don’t worry the color wont budge! Thanks for your review.

Holy crap! This smell was the only redeeming thing about blue ruin because it does smell fresh and clean! However, this will ruin everything it comes into contact with. The color itself is inconsistent and will fade into a more teal color rather than blue. My hair (and ears) are three different shades of blue and teal. The green undertones show up as it fades but with each shampoo there will be an immense amount of bleeding and it will fade fast. The high price point does come with a good amount of product but after using it three times I will not be repurchasing. I have had better luck with various other blue dyes that do not bleed. (as much/at all) nor will it stain the tub or your skin for the following week. I used vaseline to prevent any transfer but it still managed to stain my skin even after two showers and alcohol. For this price I expected better and have seen better for 1/3 the price. It is too much hassle and not worth the grief. The company response about “blue ruin” being packed with pigment does not make the dye better nor does it help when people are having difficulties with their product.

    • Becca from GDY

Hi there, thank you for your review and we’re sorry you had a poor experience using GDY. Blue is one of the most pigmented dyes and will bleed for a few washes after dyeing. The best way to stop the bleeding is to scrub your hair with hot water to remove excess pigment. To ensure even color, it is important to make sure the hair is lifted evenly to a level 10 platinum color. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected]!

  14. Brutalism

I have medium-brown hair naturally, and I’m not interested in bleaching it right now to achieve maximum brightness when it comes to dyes like this. After applying the dye and leaving it on for an hour, rinsing it out with cold water, and then drying my hair, I couldn’t believe how bright and visible the blue was!

While it did bleed like crazy all over me and my bathtub, you should wear gloves and also put a bit of vaseline on your skin where the dye might come into contact to lessen how smurfish you become.

As far as the tub, I just filled it with extremely hot water immediately afterwards, drained it, then sprayed it with a bleach cleaner. No more blue!

While the bleeding is insane, I really do think it was worth it for the amount of pigment in my hair. Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out, as well as how soft and healthy my hair feels. Just be prepared for A LOT of cleanup.

I tried this more out of interest than necessity. My previous brand was working fine, but I was interested in trying a dye that was marketed as being super vibrant as well as good for the environment.
What I got, however, was a disaster. I had to re-dye three separate times because the dye would always come out inconsistent and never stuck to my roots (and that was even with combing it through and using a more than generous amount). And the bleeding- it’s constant. My hands are blue, my forehead is blue, my white headphones and mouse are now permanently tinted. I even tried cutting the pigment with the Fader (more money down the drain). Doesn’t matter if it’s wet or dry, it’s gonna rub off onto every surface it touches.
Overall, this was a mess that I fully regret spending the money on, and I will be switching back to my previous brand that is half the price and twice as effective.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi there,

Im sorry to hear you didn’t love your Blue Ruin experince. I would suggest reaching out to our expert about the inconsistent dying it could be due to not having an even base when applying the pigment to the hair. As for the bleeding, we pack our dyes with pigment to give you a vibrant long lasting look. To stop the bleeding we suggest giving you hair a really REALLY good scrub after dying. For this color in particular since it is so pigmented you may even hit it with some warm water to stop the bleeding, don’t worry the pigment wont leave just from that one warm water wash! Thanks for your review.

I mixed this dye with a purple from another brand which made a really nice violet, and Blue Ruin has outlasted the other brand by several weeks and still looks vibrant. It also saved me from an awkward mistake that made my hair pink and green in weird areas and covered it all really smoothly. Love Good Dye Young!!

I love how vibrant this color is. The bleed is manageable and only lasts about 3 washes with a decent color management shampoo. I put a couple of drops of the dye in my conditioner to help maintain the color, and keep the fade in the blue family, instead of the green. It takes me about one tube to cover my just shy of shoulder-length hair.

By far the best dye I’ve used in my hair so far, the colour came out amazingly, I’d advise being careful with the first few washes as it can bleed and rub off onto clothes etc but it doesn’t stain and considering how long it lasts in my hair this really isn’t much of an issue. With the obvious exception of root regrowth, when I was using this I could easily go three months before redying and even then my hair still looked good. Just note that it really won’t leave your hair, I haven’t used it in almost a year and the blue still comes through when my current colour starts to fade but personally I really like that and it could definitely be bleached out if you really didn’t want it anymore, but if you’re wanting anything like green or purple over the top it makes a really nice gradient as it starts to grow out, definitely recommend!

I’ve shuffled through many different brands of blue hair dye, and I was so pleasantly surprised when I used this one! It didn’t damage my hair at all, it took REALLY well even though my hair isn’t super bleached, and there was little to no bleeding when I washed the product out! Often in other hair dyes when you wash out the blue, the water stays blue, it never turns clear. When I washed this dye out, the water actually turned clear after the rinse!!! The bleeding was very minimal, and the VIBRANCY!!!! IS SO GOOD!!! I am so incredibly happy with this hair dye, thank you thank you thank you!!!!

I LOVE Good Dye Young and have been trying different colors for many months now. I recently used blue ruin and while the pigment and smell are incredible, it stains. The blue dye continuously stains my body after each wash but does come off easily with rubbing alcohol but is a hassle. I would not recommend this hair dye.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Emily,

Thanks for your review! Our darker colors like blue ruin, PPL eater and Kowabunga are highly pigmented to allow them to be vibrant and stay in the hair for longer. However, due to this pigment load you may experience the color bleeding longer than normal causing staining. We suggest washing your hair really well after dying to curb the bleeding and staining.

I really wanted to rate this higher because I absolutely adored the shade of blue it made my hair (even without bleaching it, which is pretty amazing). Unfortunately, I have to dock it because it goes everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere. It stains the bathtub (which I’ve scrubbed twice now and is thankfully all off). It stains your clothes like crazy unless you wear black. It stains your skin (my hands still have traces of it and my back was covered in blue residue at one point). It can even stain the couch (if you happen to have a light colored cloth one like I do). I also docked it again because for whatever reason, it’s stayed extremely well in my ends and my roots are back to brown(ish). I dyed it again after about two weeks and that still did not improve. My hair feels great which is a definite plus. I just wish it didn’t bleed so much. I can’t speak for the other colors from GDY and it’s certainly the best blue I’ve tried in terms of look, but the bleeding onto everything is a little too ridiculous for me.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There,

Thanks for your review. Our dyes are packed with pigment which causes them to bleed for a little longer than you may be used to. We suggest giving your hair a really good wash. To get it out of surfaces we suggest safely applying bleach. The reason your ends may have stayed blue longer than your roots, is because your hair is more porous and the ends than at your fresh roots, there for it can hold on to more dye. I absolutely love Blue Ruin. It is such a rich vibrant color. I’ve dyed my hair twice using Blue Ruin. The only thing I would say to be very aware about is how much it bleeds. The first time I dyed my hair with blue ruin I had blue everywhere on everything. But the second time I dyed my hair I was much more cautious and careful.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for your review! Our dyes are packed with pigment, which is why you may experience more bleeding than your used to. Blue and our darker colors tend to bleed more because of that. Glad you were able to get the blue hair of your dreams!

Leaves my hair super soft and leaves a bright beautiful color! I have tried just about every shade of blue in other hair dyes (manic panic, arctic fox, splat, etc..). Yes this color does bleed a lot, but I’ve notice that to be the case for blue hair dyes in general. I haven’t tried other gdy colors so I don’t know if they bleed as much, but other colors from different brands definitely don’t bleed as much as blues do in general. I’ve only had this color in for about week so I have no idea how long it will last in comparison to other dyes. But for now I’m enjoying the color, definitely brighter than other dyes I’ve tried.

I have been trying to get blue hair for a decade; every time I’ve attempted it in the past I’ve wound up with teal/green instead. My ends were done with Narwhal before this, and it had faded out to a lovely green shade. I was ready for a change, so I picked up Blue Ruin. Without stripping the last color, I decided to just put it on, thinking maybe at worst I would get a mermaid-y effect. NO SIR. This blue is so vibrant that it covered up every green strand and left me with the color I’ve always wanted. Be warned, though, because the color is so intense, it does bleed and stain easier. I’m writing this the day after dyeing and my fingertips and neck are still blue. It is, however, a small price to pay for hair this gorgeous. AND I’ve found out that the dye is incredibly easy to clean off of tubs, showers, and sinks with just a little bleach! I am so pleased with this purchase.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Brenna,

This colour is great, I mixed it with Narwhal and got a really nice blue. However, like people have said in previous reviews… it bleeds a lot. Other GDY colours do not bleed this much. It doesn’t just get all over my bathtub. It’s on my clothes, pillowcases, and hands every time I do my hair. This has seemed to subside a bit after two washes, but beware for the first while you will have blue on everything. I noticed a GDY team member has replied to a lot of reviews saying “our products are packed with pigment, the bleeding will get better after a few washes” which is true, but how come this colour bleeds so much more compared to the others? A formula change to correct that would be great for this particular product.

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi There!

Thanks for your review. Yes as you said our products are packed with pigment, the bleeding will get better after a few washes. It happens more often with our darker colors like blue, because they are a richer deeper pigment that likes to hangout in your hair. Which is great for vibrancy, but like you said does cause it to bleed a little more.

While it’s a beautiful color and it leaves your hair soft and smelling nice, it does stain EVERYTHING. I colored my hair with blue ruin back in feb and it’s still in my hair, no touch up and I’ve tried bleaching twice and once with the good dye young lighter and it won’t budge. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue but I am someone who likes to change their hair color every 2-3 months….I’m afraid I’m going to permanately damage my hair because I can’t get this color out

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Bianca,

We pack our dye with pigment so you can have that lasting color. However, sometimes you want to change to color before it leaves. Reach out to our hair expert Becca at [email protected] she can help you come up with a plan to remove the color and protect your hair.

I have used a lot of dyes and I love Blue Ruin! It is such a strong, pigmented color. I mixed Blue Ruin with Steal My Sunshine to make a more blue based green last summer and I didn’t have to fight fading much at all. In fact, when I had to dye my hair before school started back (I’m a teacher) I actually had to work to make it fade so the green didn’t show through in the undertone. The other wonderful thing about Blue Ruin is the ability it has to overcome spotty undertones from previously dyed hair. It is a great color if you are in the process of shifting from warm to cool toned hair! I also love that it stays on hair, not on surfaces! I have found that on non-porous surfaces such as tubs and sinks, if you quickly attend to drops/stains with cold water and a soap based cleaner, it doesn’t leave a set stain. This requires some diligence on your part, but there are other brands that are MUCH harder to keep from staining surfaces.

    Love Good Dye Young!

BEAUTIFUL BLUE!! i had to bleach my hair (used GDY kit) and this blue dye turned my hair into a beautiful sky blue. only thing i have to say is, it stains everywhere in the shower which is expected with such a pigmented dye

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi there!

Im glad you love your new hair color. As you said our dyes are packed with pigment, which can cause them to bleed for a bit. After a few washes it should lessen.

Giving it four stars because I absolutely LOVE how the dye makes my hair feel (so so soft, and it smells great), but you need to believe the reviews when they say the color bleeds SO much. I dyed my hair over two weeks ago and the dye is still coming out on my clothes/pillow case/and actually on my WALLS because I leaned against them. I’ve washed my hair strictly with *cold* water to try to keep the color in, but that only does so much. This color is excellent for the color that it is, but it’s getting four stars because all of my stuff is dyed blue! 🙁

    • Jackie from GDY

      Hi Emily,

We’re so glad you love Blue Ruin! We pack pigments into our dyes to ensure long lasting color and that can result in temporary bleeding of the hair color.

This is such a beautiful blue! I love how vibrant it is. I would recommend this brand in this shade to anyone!

My only complaint is how much is bleeds and stains, but I find that blue is the only color that leaks as it does.

it really pains me to give this product such a bad review because i adore this line of dye. but the stains the dye leaves are insane. i usually split my hair in half and dye each side a different colour. last time i used the yellow and green dye and it turned out beautifully! but when i covered the green with this blue, my entire yellow side turned green. it looks terrible now. i’m really disappointed. i know many dyes bleed quite badly but no other colour from this line has bled this badly for me. it majorly stained my bathtub, my skin, my clothes, my floors, my linens, and anything the dye came in contact with. the colour is lovely but i definitely won’t be using it again due to the excessive bleeding :(((

I absolutely love this color and the product is fantastic. The dye smells great and my hair feels sooo soft but listen to the reviews when they say the color bleeds. My hands, face, and tub are blue. Honestly I’ll probably just buy a different color bet time and hope it doesn’t bleed as bad. If it didn’t bleed as bad I’d give it a 5/5, regardless this is probably my favorite dye that I’ve tried so far!

    • Hallie

      Hi Elizabeth!

We’re so happy you love our Blue Ruin as much as we do! That amazing scent is made up of our special essential oil blend consisting of Bergamot and Citrus. Our dyes are heavily pigmented and do tend to bleed but you can minimize this by washing your hair sparsely and in cool/cold water when you do wash. This helps to seal the color into the hair cuticle and help your hair stay soft and shiny while minimizing bleeding.

Thank you for reviewing our Blue Ruin!

      xx Hallie from GDY

The color is amazing! Such a vibrant Blue. I have used many different brands in the past, and this color seems to hold on the best. WARNING: color bleeds extremely bad, if you keep your hands in your hair, YOUR HANDS WILL BE BLUE (EVEN WEEKS LATER), AND IT WILL LOOK AS IF YOU HAVE MASSSACRED A VILLAGE OF SMURFS…

i tried this dye because i love hayley williams with my whole heart, but this dye is driving me insane. its been about 2 months since ive dyed my hair and it will not come out. the past week ive tried every semiperm removal method but this wont budge. normally this would be a good thing i suppose but i wanted semi perm and not this to be stuck forever. i really want to dye my hair red, but now its too blueish green

    Hi!
This was my first time dyeing my hair a vibrant color (I went platinum blonde once). I did it all on my own and while that made me nervous, I kind of had a blast. The color is super pigmented, so I would DEFINITELY recommend some disposable gloves so your hands don’t turn blue. The color stays, but when I was it kind of fades to a lighter blue. I love the deep, vibrant blue when it looks freshly-dyed, so I touch it up by putting a little dye in my conditioner about once a week-ish? With gloves; I’ve stained my hands blue a lot! And my tub a little bit, but I’ve managed to scrub it out.
Also, I feel like everyone says it smells awesome but they aren’t kidding!
    Thanks GDY!

Alright, so I’ve dyed my hair a lot, every color imaginable. So I decided to go blue one day on a whim and went to Sally’s and they pitched me this new brand that had just been released, Good Dye Young. I’ve never met Haley Williams, but honestly I would trust her with my life, so I said sure why not. First of all, the dye smells AMAZING. A little went a long way, and although I only had time to leave the dye in for 20 min, it sure was BLUE. There were a few spots where it didn’t take as well and ended up kind of green, which is my least favorite hair color, but we touched it up later and left it in longer. I live in A place where the water is harsh, and I didn’t use color safe shampoo, so it did quickly fade, but dang, that color holds on. I dyed it in January. It is now August. I’m still green. I’ve tried color oops, bleach, vinegar, heat, nothing has worked. The only ting that came close to working was dying it red to neutralize it, but that quickly faded to, guess what, green again. I personally hate having green hair, but this is my life now. I’m one with the green. I’m basically Shrek, but like, hotter. Moral of the story, if you’re going to use this dye, you gotta COMMIT, cuz it ain’t givin up on you easy.

Color payoff is great. The staining is a disaster. If I wanted a color that stained this much I would just use splat. Probably wouldn’t buy again unless the formula was changed.

    • Becca Sievers

Thank you for your review on Blue Ruin! We are happy that you like the color payoff. Our colors are extremely pigmented to give you the longest lasting results. Sometimes this can mean more bleeding. However, the color will stop bleeding after a few washes!

THE BEST! Blue ruin has such a beautiful and bright pigment and smells so good! I get compliments on my hair color all the time! I found that maybe $18 for the tube is a bit much, but the product does last a long while since you only need so much to get to the desired color you want. The color fades well and last me weeks before ever having to touch it up. I also used the lightening kit that I bought from Sally’s and it worked great, but since I have pretty long hair I needed more than one kit. I will definitely only be using this brand for hair dyes. Also, I love that the products are vegan and cruelty free! ily GDY ?

I know it says the color lasts 4-6 weeks , but for me personally it lastes MONTHS! and i wash my hair very frecuently so i was So impressed. I bought this color twice and is the best dye i ever used.
P.S: i think the fluid ounces changed because now i can use only 1 box of dye for all of my hair!

  45. izabellaxrose

This dye is fantastic! I mixed it with half a tube of PPL Eater to get a rich indigo color. It’s held up extremely well! It’s been over a month since I dyed my hair and the color has only faded a bit. It has bled onto my clothes, however it comes off in the washer so it hasn’t stained anything. Though it does bleed quite a bit. Other than that, this dye is amazing and I will definitely repurchase it in the future!

Blue ruin is THE dye for me. I LOVE how blue it is and how it always lasts soo long. So I am so glad for that. I’ve been using Blue Ruin since the end of 2016. Having blue hair makes me feel soo confident. I love how it fades to a beautiful aqua then a nice green. I will continue to dye my hair with GDY. I recently ordered some more Blue Ruin and a box of PPL Eater. So at some point I will try out PPL Eater. P.S. I LOOOVE how it smells. ♡♡

  47. Savanna Pollock

This blue dye is great!!! I’ve had it in my hair for about 2 months and although it has faded, it’s faded SO WELL! I went to my moms the other day and she just said “your hair is REALLY still THAT blue” it’s the magic of GDY, mom ?‍♀️ 10/10 recommend this to EVERYONE!!!!

  48. Dravvin Bane (verified owner)

I have no words for this product. I used to use Arctic Fox but it kept fading too quickly and then I found this and my mind is blown! I had a very washed out blue to start and now I’m a vibrant dark blue and I LOVE it!! I bought the hair care as well and just using the prewash, shampoo and conditioner just today I noticed an amazing change in my hair. Best of all? The color is STILL there! It hardly faded (if it did) whereas my first wash with other brands would practically fade to pastel almost.

Finding this brand has been a godsend!! I get so many compliments at work with it and though it does stain I can deal with that because I am absolutely in love! Finally, I found vegan hair colors and hair care that works and smells absolutely wonderful!! I’m so pleased and shall go “dye happy” now!♡♡

Hi, hello!!! I bought this color around January and I only used less than half the bottle bc only half of my hair was “dye-able” but anyways I still have some bc I’ve only touched up once!! The color is still strong and beautiful!!! And when it fades it’s a cool green-blue and at work (I’m a cashier at a grocery store) I am constantly getting complimented by customers with the fresh and fading versions!! I recommend you guys to EVERY customer!! Anyways thanks for being the first hair dye brand to not suffocate me!!! ?

Amazing vibrant and long lasting blue! I’ve had it this color for a month with minimal fading. Smells amazing and made my hair softer! 🙂

My only criticism is that I warn users that the dye color is more of a deep royal blue when dyed on white/platinum blonde. To get the color advertised on both models pictured above you need to add a large amount of fader.

    • Hallie from GDY

      Hey!

We are so happy your hair is very vibrant and has lasted for a long time! You are correct in that our Blue Ruin is more of a deep blue but the more you wash your hair (especially in hot water), the more your hair will fade to a lighter blue! If there’s anything else we can help you with, please let us know!
